Welcome to the Australian Critical Race and Whiteness Studies Association (ACRAWSA)
ACRAWSA is an exciting and growing social and cultural network of researchers who recognise that whiteness operates through institutions, ideology and identity formation to secure political, legal and economic privileges for white people as a collective leaving many Indigenous and other people racialised as 'non white' collectively disadvantaged and dispossessed of material, cultural and intellectual resources.
The Australian Critical Race and Whiteness Studies Association is an independent incorporated body that is not affiliated with the University of Queensland or any other organisation. It is wholly supported by voluntary individual membership subscriptions and is not in direct receipt of any government monies.
ACRAWSA promotes scholarship and other activities which:
Respect the existence of and continuing rights deriving from Indigenous sovereignties in Australia and elsewhere
Critically investigate the construction and maintenance of race and whiteness, both past and present
Expose and challenge white race privilege in Australia and elsewhere
On this site you will find discussion forums, links to our online refereed journal and other publications, notices of relevant activities and events, ACRAWSA news and member services.
